BCBS Texas Credentialing: Get In Network With Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas
CAQH, Network Requests, Contracts and Recredentialing
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) is one of the largest health insurers in Texas, so being in its networks matters for most Texas practices. Billing Benefit handles your BCBSTX credentialing: we keep your CAQH profile current, submit your network requests and follow up until you are approved. Billing Benefit is an independent company and is not affiliated with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas.

BCBS Texas Credentialing Problems We Fix
| Credentialing problem | Why it costs you | How we fix it |
|---|---|---|
| CAQH profile incomplete or not attested | BCBSTX uses CAQH ProView for credentialing. An incomplete, outdated or unattested profile stalls the application. | We complete your CAQH profile, upload current documents, give BCBSTX access and re-attest on time. |
| Not sure which network to join | BCBSTX has several networks, such as Blue Choice PPO, Blue Essentials and Blue Advantage HMO, and joining one does not put you in all of them. | We confirm which networks your patients use and request participation in each one you need. |
| Requests stuck with no answer | Network requests can sit for weeks without follow-up, and visits for BCBSTX patients go unpaid or out of network in the meantime. | We follow up regularly and keep a record of every contact until BCBSTX makes a decision. |
| New provider joining your group | A provider added to your group cannot bill under the group’s BCBSTX agreement until they are credentialed and linked to it. | We credential the new provider and link them to your group’s agreement and tax ID. |
| Missed recredentialing | BCBSTX recredentials providers on a regular cycle, usually every three years. Missing a request can put your network status at risk. | We track recredentialing dates and keep your CAQH profile current so you stay in network. |

How BCBS Texas Credentialing Works
Credentialing and contracting
Credentialing confirms your education, license, board certification, malpractice history and work history, mostly from your CAQH ProView profile. Contracting is the agreement that sets your network terms and fee schedule. You need both before BCBSTX pays you as an in-network provider. BCBSTX takes network participation requests through its online provider onboarding tools on the Availity portal, and its credentialing committee makes the final decision.
How We Handle Your BCBSTX Credentialing
One team from CAQH to contract
We collect your documents once, update and attest your CAQH profile, submit the network request for each provider and location and follow up until BCBSTX decides. When the agreement arrives, we walk you through the networks and effective dates before you sign, so billing starts on the right date.

Other Payers We Credential With
Commercial, Medicare and Medicaid
Most practices need more than one payer. We also credential with UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Cigna and Humana, enroll providers in Medicare through PECOS (see our Medicare enrollment services) and in Texas Medicaid through TMHP (see Texas Medicaid enrollment). See our medical credentialing services for everything we handle.
Why Practices Choose Billing Benefit
A Texas team that credentials Texas providers
We are based in Sugar Land and credential Texas providers with Texas payers. Once you are in network, we can also handle billing and coding and denial management for your BCBSTX claims, and every practice can start with a free medical billing audit.

BCBS Texas Credentialing FAQs
How long does BCBS Texas credentialing take?
It depends on the provider type, the network and how complete your CAQH profile is. Many requests take a few months from submission to an effective agreement, so it pays to start early and keep CAQH current.
Do I need a CAQH profile for BCBSTX?
Yes, for most professional providers. BCBSTX uses CAQH ProView to collect and verify your credentialing information, so your profile must be complete, attested and shared with BCBSTX.
Is credentialing the same as being in network?
No. Credentialing verifies your qualifications. You are in network only once your agreement is in place and effective. We track both steps for you.
Are you part of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas?
No. Billing Benefit is an independent medical billing and credentialing company. We work with BCBSTX on your behalf as your credentialing team.
